Via Allpar, Chrysler has filed patents to put "Stow 'N Go" seats in the Ram and in SUV's, meaning a seat that will fold completely flat and essentially disappear without the need to remove it. I think that could be a sales driver, as this is a feature that certain consumers definitely seem to seek out or find appealing. When the seats aren't stowed you also get those extra storage areas of course.

Definitely a plus. If I were in the market for a minivan, I'd only consider the Chrysler and new Kia Sedona because of the fold-away seats. It makes them positively huge for carrying stuff. Adding them to their SUVs and RAM can only help them since they're inevitably low on the market share in all segments.

Only cool if it's in the bed, a la Subaru Brat.

The seat backs would have to be pretty heavy duty and close shut with a tight seal if you're going to haul rocks and dirt and stuff, not to mention rain collecting in the bed.

This seems like it would invade usable space, given that there just isn't the same amount of vertical room from floor to roof in say a Ram or Durango compared to a traditional minivan.

It really has to do with the amount of room below the floor, and I don't see how they can do it in a Ram since you basically sit above the frame rails. Maybe there actually is room, or maybe they're planning a smaller unibody truck, like a Ram Dakota or something. In a unibody SUV I would think they could find room to stow the seats. Might have to give up some ground clearance, but looking around the current SUV/CUV market, lower vehicles seems to be the direction these days anyway.
